Alabaré is the largest provider of dedicated accommodation for homeless veterans, outside of London. They already run a number of Homes for Veterans across the South West of England. Their first Wales Home for Veterans opened in 2014 in Cardiff and Pontypridd in 2015. It is estimated that there are around 220,000 veterans in Wales. The Wales Homes for Veterans project has been planned in direct response to demand from the Armed Forces Community in Wales. The project will benefit male and female veterans from all three services; Army, Royal Navy and RAF. Alabaré will work in partnership with the Poppy Factory within the homes to develop a dedicated employability service, which will benefit veterans who are furthest from the employability market. The charity is on track with their plans to develop the new homes, and has a fantastic team in place ready for the launch. Under the Wales Homes for Veterans initiative Alabaré will open homes in three defined areas; Pontypridd and Cardiff, Carmarthen and Swansea, and Wrexham. In total, 72 bed spaces will be created within fifteen separate houses. The creation of these new homes was made possible thanks to the £976,269 that was awarded to the project by the Armed Forces Covenant (Libor) fund in November 2013.
