Director & Consultant Clinical Lead


Dr. Neil Kitchiner, responsible for the day to day running of the Service, including service supervision and training for the veterans’ therapists (VTs). Neil is one of the two veteran therapist for Cardiff and Vale UHB, offering assessment, signposting, brief psychological therapy (approx 16-20 sessions), and follow-up appointments. Neil was a Reservist with 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital, Army Reserve Centre, Cardiff.  He completed a tour of Afghanistan (HERRICK 19a, Oct 13 - Jan 14) as part of the two person Field Mental Health Team, based in the primary health care centre, Camp Bastion, Afghanistan. Neil holds an Honorary title: Veterans Mental Health Lead, Cardiff University. He is involved in two randomised controlled trials, testing: 1) Guided self-help vs TFCBT with civilians with PTSD and 2) 3MDR vs wait list control with veterans with treatment resitent PTSD.


Veteran Therapist


Clare Crole-Rees joined Veterans' NHS Wales in August 2013, and works three days a week (Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays). She is a HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist, and a BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist. She completed her training in EMDR in 2014. She developed a special interest in Trauma whilst working for the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma at the Maudsley Hospital in London before joining Veterans' NHS Wales.

Clare provides evidence-based psychological treatment for Veterans with PTSD and a range of other difficulties. These therapies include EMDR and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She has a special interest in working with clients who present with Complex PTSD reactions and also provides Couples therapy for Veterans and their Partners. Clare is currently seconded to C&V Traumatic Stress Service and two research studies on PTSD.


Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr David Seeley, Consultant Psychiatrist provides an out-patient clinic in Monmouth House, UHW on the first Wednesday of each month.
